The Spanish national team secured their first win in this season’s Nations League on the road against Switzerland with Carvajal in the starting line-up. Joselu and Fabian scored early goals but had to play with 10 men from the 19th minute onwards following Le Normand’s sending off. They defended the result with a strong performance at the back from the Madrid full-back, who played the whole game. Fabián and Ferrán wrapped up the win in the closing stages.
Spain began the match on the front foot. Two goals up inside 12 minutes, but after going a man down, they had to deal with the Swiss pressure. The home side pulled one back before the break-through Amdouni. They made a huge effort in the second half to defend their lead and, though their opponents had chances to equalise, Spain held firm and closed out the game in the last 15 minutes with two more goals. Spain now have four points from two games following the international break.
