Swiss workers want more flexibility in their jobs

04 June 2024

The majority of workers in Switzerland (80%) say flexible working is important to them but only just over half are able to work in this way, according to research from Swiss Staffing and the GFS-Zürich Institute.

Most workers (79%) see flexibility as an opportunity for better work and life balance and to encourage personal responsibility, while 67% believe it increases productivity.

When it comes to hours, overall, more workers want to reduce their working hours (33%) than increase them (13%). Swiss Staffing said flexibility is one possible solution, adding that if workers have more leeway in organising their work hours, they can take on a higher workload.

Meanwhile, nearly half of those not working (48%) would join the labour market if they could flexibly shape their working hours and volume.
