My analysis
Don’t get me wrong, the Swiss have some good players in their ranks. Granit Xhaka is fresh from the best season of his career at Bayer Leverkusen, Manuel Akanji just won the Premier League with Man City, and Xherdan Shaqiri offers experience despite his advanced years.
That said, they really struggled in qualifying, finishing second behind a fairly average Romania team. The Swiss have also won just four out of their last 10 games and remain extremely stale in attack.
Meanwhile, Hungary enters the weekend with just one loss in their last 16 games, coming in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Ireland earlier this month. I can let that result slide because they topped their qualifying group, one of just six teams to go unbeaten, alongside more acclaimed teams such as Portugal, England, and France.
This Hungary team might not have as many household names as Switzerland, but they operate as more than the sum of their parts. This is a strong team who are exceptionally well-drilled and tactically smart.
They averaged two goals scored per game in qualifying, and Dominik Szoboszlai is the straw that stirs the offensive attack. At +265, we have to back the Hungarians.
