Switzerland v Italy Betting Tips, Odds & Match Preview – Euro 2024

After two weeks of group matches, it is time for the serious business to start at Euro 2024 with Switzerland and Italy kicking off the action in the knockout rounds on Saturday.

Curiously, the two sides meet despite both finishing second in their respective groups but it is hardly new territory for either and defending champions Italy will be eyeing up a favourable draw.

We’ve looked at some of the best football betting offers, odds and markets from our range of football betting sites to provide you with Switzerland v Italy betting tips.

Switzerland v Italy Match Preview

After a pretty dour final round of group matches at Euro 2024, it is down to the nitty-gritty of knockout football over the next couple of weeks as the last 16 teams battle it out for a place in the final in Munich on July 14.

Due to some of the unexpected results – Austria coming top of Group D put a big spanner in the works – one half of the draw appears to have opened up significantly, leaving teams such as England and Italy seriously eyeing up a spot in that final.

With Romania, Netherlands, Austria, Turkey, England and Slovakia making up the other six sides in this half of the draw, there is plenty at stake in this game for two sides used to knockout football at major tournaments.

We know all about Italy and their history. And while they are not the force they used to be, they showed at Euro 2020 that there is no better nation at navigating their way through a major tournament. Getting there is their only issue, but they are experts at game management and expect that to show again here.

Switzerland on the other hand are an experienced side, having been to there knockout stages at the last two Euros and two of the last three World Cups, and are not to be taken lightly – as France found out in Bucharest three years ago.

Having beaten them on penalties, they were then defeated the same way in the quarter-finals by Spain and that is likely to be a similar pattern here.

Italy beat Austria in extra-time, Spain on penalties and England on penalties in the final while Switzerland’s two shoot-outs represent both a conservativeness and a lack of cutting edge on both fronts.

I expect to see a very cautious game here, and while Italy were probably the better of the two sides in the group stages I think they are a team short on goals, and they will instead sit in and control matches before striking late. That might not be the way of Luciano Spalletti, but it is Italian football heritage and I think that will come through.

That is why I am going for a draw at 2/1 with BetMGM for my first tip. I don’t think it will be goalless, but a low-scoring game so if I were to put a score on it I would go for 1-1 but I won’t be having that as my official tip.

Secondly, with the game going the distance and of the six games played between them at Euro 2020 in the knockouts, four going to penalties, I am going for that pattern to continue and Italy to emerge triumphant from spot-kicks, and that is 13/2 with bet365.
