The DP World Tour heads to Switzerland this week for the European Masters and all eyes will be on one of the big favourites Matt Fitzpatrick, who will be looking for his third win in the event.
Matt Fitzpatrick Won The European Masters Golf Back-to-Back
World-ranked 27th golfer Matt Fitzpatrick will be flying the English flag at the European Masters this week and having a rich history in the event it’s no shock to see the best golf betting sites in the UK having him as one of the big favourites.
Fitzpatrick won the tournament back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 – both times in a playoff – and was also tied third 12 months ago in 2023.
The two-time European Masters winner is still looking for his first win in 2024 but was an impressive 5th in the Players Championship back in March – ending up just four shots off winner and world number one Scottie Scheffler.
Since then, Matt Fitzpatrick also ended 5th in the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in June – again to Scheffler, so a repeat of those efforts would see him go close back against easier opposition in an event he loves to play in.
Fitzpatrick took last week off to freshen up after finishing tied 28th in the BMW Championship at the end of August.

More European Masters Golf Winners Return In 2024
Ludvig Åberg won last year’s European Masters golf on only his second appearance in the DP World Tour and as a result also won a captain’s pick off Luke Donald for the Ryder Cup.
However, the Swedish champion isn’t back this year to try and become the first back-to-back winner since Matt Fitzpatrick.
This is because the world number 5th ranked player on the sidelines having had knee surgery after last week’s Tour Championship.
The European Masters golf this week though will still see some more past champions in attendance.
We’ll have 2022 winner Thriston Lawrence from South Africa, 2021 hero Rasmus Højgaard from Denmark and 2020 victor Sebastian Söderberg will all be back for more.
The last European Masters champion to win back his title was Thomas Bjørn in 2013 – having previous won the event in 2011.
This year’s golfers will also be playing for a $3.25m purse – see the full European Masters golf prize money breakdown here.
Where Is The European Masters Golf Played?
The Omega European Masters is the Switzerland leg on the tour each season and began life as the Swiss Open back in 1923.
It wasn’t until 1983 that the event was prefixed with the European Masters title and lost the ‘Swiss Open’ tag fully in 1992.
The home of the European Masters has been the Golf-Club Crans-sur-Sierre in Valais since 1939 and is held each year on the DP Tour in early September.
Crans is a 70-par course that is 6,824 yards in length with European Masters tournament record being held by Canada’s Jerry Anderson, who shot -27 to win in 1984 – beating England’s Howard Clark by five shots.
