LAUSANNE (Switzerland) – With one year to go until the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 in Switzerland, the occasion was celebrated with the unveiling of the Tissot countdown clock and the competition logo at a special event held in the host city.
The flagship youth tournament will take place in the city of Lausanne from June 28, 2025, with 16 teams all fighting it out to make the showpiece Final which will be played on July 6, 2025. The eagerly anticipated event will see Switzerland welcoming the world’s best young talents at the highest level.
To mark the 365 day countdown, the City of Lausanne and Tissot, the official global partner and timekeeper of FIBA and also Swiss Basketball, unveiled the Tissot Countdown Clock at the Lausanne train station. Installed at a FIBA youth event for the first time, it will be visible to nearly 150,000 commuters daily and play a vital role in promoting the competition.
Swiss Basketball was awarded the hosting rights by FIBA with the support of the City of Lausanne, the Olympic Capital, and the State of Vaud – which is also the home of the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, FIBA’s Headquarters.
The tournament will also extend the list of international sporting events hosted by the city, including the FIBA 3×3 World Tour, the Winter Youth Olympic Games and a Tour de France stage finish.
Those guests from FIBA, Swiss Basketball and the City of Lausanne attending the ceremony were also able to enjoy the launch of the logo and visual identity for the competition.
Developed by a Swiss agency, it blends international appeal with national identity. Paying tribute to the host nation with its immediately recognizable red and white, it features the trophy at its center and is surrounded by Swiss symbols such as the edelweiss, the Swiss cross, the mountains and Lake Geneva.
This visual identity, with its contemporary and innovative design, also strongly reflects both the cultural and natural richness of Switzerland and the youthful, dynamic spirit of the competition.
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis stated: “Today marks an important milestone, and this edition of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 promises to be special for many reasons.
“This is the competition where iconic Olympic, World and NBA champions have featured, providing this time to the fans in Lausanne a rare ‘window to the future’ of our sport.
“It’s also the first time our leading youth competition will be held in Switzerland, and it will obviously be played close to FIBA headquarters. As well as this, this edition will also be played on the 90th anniversary of the first FIBA EuroBasket, which was held in Geneva in 1935.”
Andrea Siviero, President of Swiss Basketball, commented: “The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 is a remarkable event for the global basketball community and we are proud to organize it in Switzerland and in Lausanne, the Olympic capital.
“The participation of the Swiss team in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 is an enormous opportunity for Swiss Basketball. We are convinced that this participation will inspire a new generation of young basketball players and energize the entire Swiss basketball community.”
Sixteen national teams will take to the court in 2025, with qualification for the event to be confirmed shortly, following the completion of the U18 continental events.
