What is this church’s initiative?
This initiative is part of a religious art project titled Deus Ex Machina or “God in the Machine,” created by the Immersive Realities Research Lab at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The AI Jesus is programmed to communicate in 100 languages, making it accessible to worshippers worldwide.
Drawing from the New Testament to craft its responses, the system has demonstrated a strong alignment with the church’s teachings, offering thoughtful and consistent spiritual guidance.
The church’s new experiment has received mixed reactions from visitors. While some who engaged with the AI Jesus praised its thoughtful and insightful guidance, others were less impressed. Critics found the experience somewhat impersonal, stating that the responses felt generic and lacked the depth and empathy of a human spiritual advisor.
