Bayern Munich player watch with Germany at Euro 2024: Manuel Neuer solid in 1-1 draw vs Switzerland

In their final group stage game, Germany started brightly against Switzerland, but ultimately had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Robert Andrich had appeared to have given the host nation the lead after 17 minutes, but joy soon turned to disappointment when, following a VAR review, the goal was overturned for a foul by Jamal Musiala in the build-up. Just before the half-hour mark, Switzerland took the shock lead.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser after the break. And just when it looked like the match was out of reach, in the second minute of added time, substitute Niclas Füllkrug connected with his header and made it 1-1.

With that result Germany won Group A, finishing on seven points from three matches. Switzerland had to settle for second place with five points and are also through to the next round. Let us now take a look at how the Bayern Munich contingent fared against an impressive Swiss team.

For the first time in the tournament, Manuel Neuer was beaten by one of the opposition’s players; truth be told, there was little the veteran keeper could have done to deny Dan Ndoye from giving Switzerland the lead against the run of play.

Apart from the goal conceded, Neuer continued his impressive form at Euro 2024. He was commanding in the box and made two saves during the match. His second save, just before the end of regulation time, was a spectacular one to deny Bayer Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka.

Thanks in part to the tactics from the Swiss, Neuer’s distribution wasn’t at its usual high standards. But other than that, it was a satisfactory performance from the 38-year-old goalkeeper.
