Bulgaria supports the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine to convene the first Global Peace Summit. On this occasion, Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev met with Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria Olesya Ilashchuk and Swiss Ambassador Raymund Furrer, the Cabinet’s press office said on Friday.
The international summit which will be held on June 15-16 in Switzerland aims at outlining a roadmap for future peace efforts in Ukraine based on the President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Formula for Peace, on the UN Charter and international law. Zelensky’s initiative is a conceptual plan for ending the war in Ukraine and achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace based on preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Bulgaria participates in four of the initiative’s relevant working groups – on Food Security, Energy Security, Restorative Justice and as co-chair on Environmental Security, together with Germany and Finland.
Glavchev said that Bulgaria will continue to support Ukraine in its just cause to defend its right to freedom and independence and to choose its own security guarantees. Bulgaria remains fully committed to a strong and united response by NATO, the European Union and the international democratic community to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine are active both on the bilateral and the international level, the statement said.
