Quebec native Laurie Blouin captured a bronze medal in her World Cup season opener in the big air event Saturday in Chur, Switzerland. 

The 28-year-old finish with a total of 163.00 points.

Quebec City’s Laurie Blouin claims first World Cup medal of the season as she claims big air bronze in Chur, Switzerland Saturday.

A pair of Japanese athletes took the top-two spots on the podium.

Mari Fukada won gold with a score of 181.50, while compatriot Reira Iwabuchi earned silver at 167.50.

Japan’s Fukada takes opening big air World Cup win of the season

Mari Fukada scored 181.50, good enough to win her second career World Cup big air event, this time in Chur, Switzerland.

It was Fukada’s second career World Cup win. 

Blouin won an Olympic silver medal in slopestyle at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.

She’s also a two-time world champion —a slopestyle title in 2017 and big air gold 2021. 

Deschamps starts off with bronze

On Friday, freestyle skier Dylan Deschamps of Quebec City held off Finnish opponent Elias Syrja to pick up a bronze medal.

Deschamps scored 172.25 points for his performance, 1.25 ahead of Syrja in fourth. Matej Svancer of Austria was victorious (186.00) at the site of his first-career World Cup title in 2021, while Norway’s Tormod Frostad captured silver (178.00).

A year ago, the 21-year-old Deschamps was awarded gold in his World Cup debut after runs on the second day of competition in Chur were cancelled due to wet weather. He had scored 93.66 in qualifying the previous day that stood as the official result.
