Marc Guehi will miss England’s next Euro 2024 match if they progress to the quarter-finals.
England kicked off their 2024 European Championships knockout campaign against Slovakia on Sunday afternoon at the Veltins-Arena.
Should the Three Lions be victorious, they will face Switzerland, who knocked out reigning champions Italy with a dominant 2-0 display on Saturday night.
But if they reach the quarter-finals, key player Marc Guehi will be absent after the Crystal Palace defender was given his second yellow card of the tournament early in the match,
After teammate Kieran Trippier made an errant short pass that allowed Andraz Sporar to make a break on the English goal, Guehi made a last ditch effort in the fourth minute to block the forward which was deemed to be foul play by referee Umut Meler.
The 23-year-old centre back also received a yellow card in the 68th minute of England’s final group game against Slovenia, which finished 0-0.
As part of the tournament rules, if a player receives two yellow cards, he is suspended for a game.
A player will also be suspended for a second time if he gets four yellow cards.
Despite only having 14 senior England caps, Guehi has been crucial for Gareth Southgate and has played every minute of the tournament so far.
And the defender wasn’t the only English player to be booked early in the match against Slovakia.

Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo was shown a yellow card in the seventh minute of his first Euro 2024 for a late challenge.
Ten minutes later, Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham was shown a yellow card for bringing down Slovakian winger Lukas Haraslin.
The quick yellow cards are the earliest since 1980 that three different players were booked at the Euros, according to Opta.
