The clock is ticking for England. There may be seven months until the start of Euro 2025 but Tuesday’s friendly against Switzerland at Bramall Lane will be Sarina Wiegman’s last chance to tinker with her squad before the tournament.
From the new year, England are short on time and freedom. There will be only three international windows before Wiegman picks her squad for the Euros defence and each of those features two Nations League games, which have value in their own right and influence World Cup qualifying.
“It’s truly a moment to experiment,” Wiegman said of the match in Sheffield. “In the Nations League you go out to win, also to develop, but the balance will be more towards winning those games.”
