England will play Switzerland in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 if they beat Slovakia on Sunday.
Murat Yakin’s Swiss side beat reigning champions Italy 2-0 on Saturday in the first last-16 tie of this summer’s tournament.
This sets up a potential clash with Gareth Southgate’s England in Dusseldorf, if the Three Lions can beat a stubborn Slovakian side.
Slovakia finished third in Group E behind Romania and Belgium, but will still provide a tough test for goal-shy England.
And Switzerland would be even more difficult to beat, having comprehensively beaten Italy and drawn 1-1 with hosts Germany.
England have fallen on the easier half of the draw – France, Portugal, Spain, Germany and Belgium are on the other – but they still have a potentially treacherous path to the final.
When would England’s quarter-final take place?
England’s potential clash with Switzerland would take place on Saturday 6 July in Dusseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena.
The match would kick off at 5pm BST, while the winners of Romania vs the Netherlands and Austria vs Turkey would play at 8pm in Berlin.
