New Delhi: England and Switzerland are set to clash in the third quarter-final of UEFA Euro 2024 at Merkur Spiel Arena in Düsseldorf on Saturday, July 6th. Neither side has ever won the tournament, but they are now tantalizingly close to changing that. Southgate’s tenure with England has recently been under scrutiny, particularly following a goalless draw against Slovenia in their last Group C match. Switzerland’s path to the quarter-finals has been marked by a standout 2-0 victory over defending champions Italy. Ruben Vargas played a pivotal role, assisting Remo Freuler for the first goal and scoring the second shortly after halftime, making Switzerland the first team to secure a quarter-final spot. Under Yakin’s guidance, the Swiss team has emerged as a formidable force in the tournament.
Their group stage performance included a dominant win over Hungary and commendable draws with Scotland and Germany. This is their second consecutive Euro quarter-final appearance, though they have yet to advance further in any major tournament. Unlike England, Switzerland has been in excellent form, remaining unbeaten in their last eight matches and suffering only one loss in 18 games since the 2022 World Cup.
