Polaris Dawn’s historic spacewalk

The Polaris Dawn crew, led by billionaire Jared Isaacman and including non-astronauts Scott Poteet, Anna Menon, and Sarah Gillis, is poised to make history today with the first-ever private spacewalk.

This five-day mission is part of the Polaris Program, which aims to test and develop new space technologies. It is the first of three planned missions under the program. The crew lifted off on September 10 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s iconic Launch Complex-39A at the Kennedy Space Center.

For the spacewalk, all crew members will don spacesuits, and the air will be completely vented from the spacecraft. According to The New York Times, “The hatch will then be opened, and the inside of the spacecraft will become part of the vacuum of outer space.”

However, only Isaacman and Gillis will exit the capsule to perform the spacewalk, while Poteet and Menon will stay inside to manage the umbilical cords and monitor readings, ensuring the operation runs smoothly.

Jaishankar is also scheduled to meet the Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis to review the strong partnership between India and Switzerland and discuss new opportunities for enhancing bilateral ties, according to the MEA.

The ‘bow-string’ arch bridge in Mumbai

The much-anticipated ‘bow-string’ arch bridge, connecting the Mumbai Coastal Road with the Bandra Worli Sea Link, is set to partially open, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Currently, the Coastal Road ends at Worli, but this new bridge will be a game-changer. Starting on September 12, vehicles will be able to drive directly onto the Bandra Worli Sea Link, bypassing the tedious detour at the Worli interchange, The Indian Express reported.

Interestingly, there will be no formal inauguration for the bridge but by the end of the year, the girder connecting the southbound lanes of the Sea Link to the Coastal Road is expected to be completed, marking a significant milestone in improving Mumbai’s connectivity.
