Five from training: Focus turns to Conference League qualification

After a well-earned day off on Monday, the Blues were in high spirits as they returned to training with the focus switching to the second leg of our Conference League play-off against Servette.

Noni Madueke was the star of the show in the West Midlands with his headline-grabbing hat-trick, but now is not the time to rest on his laurels, and here he is receiving further instructions from Enzo Maresca.

Joao Felix also found the net at Molineux as he enjoyed a second debut to remember. Now comes the chance to return to European action with the Blues. He chose our victory against Borussia Dortmund as the highlight of his first spell with the club.

Robert Sanchez had a hand in our second goal on Sunday with his quick thinking helping instigate a rapid counter-attack. The goalie spoke afterwards about that win providing a platform for the weeks and months ahead.

‘We are building chemistry, practising in training and the more games and training sessions we do, the better we’ll get,’ he said.

Christopher Nkunku opened his account for the season in the first leg against Servette, dusting himself down after being felled inside the box to coolly put us 1-0 up from the spot.

He was a substitute on Sunday as he continues to get back to full fitness after so long out injured, so has a chance of starting tomorrow. He was hard at work in preparation for the trip to Switzerland.

Benoit Badiashile’s good vibe emphasised the positive spirit in the squad right now as we look to make it three wins on the spin on the banks of Lake Geneva. The travelling party depart for Switzerland later today (Wednesday).
