Borussia Dortmund star Niclas Füllkrug did it once again and scored Germany’s lone goal during the team’s 1-1 draw in Switzerland at EURO 2024 to finish off the group stage.
For the BVB attacker, it was yet another instance where his knack for scoring boosted the Germans. Füllkrug said there was no secret to his success in being a supersub for the national team.
“Nothing. I’m actually not used to coming off the bench [at club level]. It’s important to bring energy to the pitch. All subs did well today, [Nico] Schlotterbeck did well — [David] Raum with his cross in the end. It was a nice moment for me and for the team,” Füllkrug said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It wasn’t a goal that kept us in the tournament, but it actually changed the situation and now we might get an opponent not as tough as if we had finished second. Nevertheless, if we want to become European champions, we have to beat anyone. Every team has its strengths. We have to look at ourselves.”
Has Füllkrug done enough to bump Arsenal FC’s Kai Havertz from his starting role?
