Germany became the first team to punch their ticket to the Round of 16 after winning their first two matches, hammering Scotland before taking down Hungary, outscoring their two opponents 7-1 over that span. The host country looks like a strong force, as expected, and really has the edge over their opponents thus far.
On the other side, Switzerland is in a good spot, but is not completely out of the woods. Despite picking up a win over Hungary during Matchday 1, they only picked up a point against Scotland last Wednesday. For the Swiss, in order to advance to the knockout stage, they just have to draw or beat Germany to ensure second place in Group A. However, a loss to Germany would open the door for Scotland, granted they would have to beat Hungary by six goals in order to steal second from Switzerland.
Germany has dominated the “neutral” county over the years, coming into Sunday with a 35-8-9 record against Switzerland. Yet, the Swiss did hold Germany to a pair of draws in their last meetings during the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League season.
