BERLIN — The Round of 16 at the UEFA Euro 2024 begins on Saturday, as one of the top football nations looks to punch its ticket to the quarterfinals.

Switzerland looked good early on in the tournament thanks to a solid 3-1 win over Hungary two weeks ago. However, a measly draw with Scotland left some doubts about whether the team had the stuff to be a worthy competitor later in the tournament. They were able to secure second place in Group A thanks to a draw with host Germany on Sunday, but that has left many to wonder how far they can go in the tournament.
The Swiss are eyeing just their second-ever trip to the quarterfinals at the Euros.
Italy got into the knockout stage by the hair of their chinny-chin-chin. Heading into the dying minutes of their last group-stage match against Croatia, the defending Euro champions needed a goal from Mattia Zaccagni to send the contest to a 1-1 draw, helping Azzurre secure second place in Group B. Italy is looking to move on to the quarterfinals for the fifth straight year.
Italy is 29-24-7 against Switzerland, though the teams came to a couple of draws during qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
