Italy ‘make England look half decent’ and dubbed ‘terrible’ as fans react to Switzerland defeat

Football fans on social media have reacted after Italy were beaten 2-0 by Switzerland at Euro 2024 on Saturday.

Luciano Spalletti’s side were put to the sword, with Switzerland winning courtesy of goals from Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas.

Italy were poor throughout the showdown, with their opponents dominating possession and managing more shots than their rivals.

There will now be an inquest into their underwhelming performances, with Spalletti’s future up in the air.

And a sixth said: “Italy don’t deserve to be here, by the way. They’ve been mid all tourney.”

Italy won Euro 2020 three years ago, beating England on penalties.

However, they’ve struggled in the time since and will now need to get to the bottom of why they’ve been so poor.

Had it not been for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, things could have been even worse on Saturday.

Matteo Darmian is a player past his prime, while Gianluca Mancini had a day to forget.

Nicolo Barella seemed to be hampered by an early injury, with the Inter Milan star coming off in the second half.

It was a day to forget for winger Federico Chiesa, with the Juventus star failing to pose much of a threat.

And Gianluca Scammaca was anonymous up top as his side crashed to defeat.

Switzerland, however, will now be fancying their chances of winning the European Championships for the first time.

There were star performers all over the pitch, with goalscorers Freuler and Vargas both impressive.
