Jude Bellingham ‘refuses to be subbed’ vs Switzerland as No.10 flashes on board

Jude Bellingham was confused when his number flashed up to leave the pitch as a substitute as England took on Switzerland, only for the Three Lions midfielder to refuse to leave the pitch.

The Real Madrid star was perplexed when informed that his number 10 was shown by the fourth official and he was told to leave the pitch by the referee.

Switzerland had only recently taken the lead through Breel Embolo, who stabbed home at the far post, when Bellingham was insistent that a mistake had been made and he wasn’t the one who would be departing.

A drab first half came and went without a single shot on target between either side, as Southgate’s change in shape failed to have the desired effect as a hybrid three-at-the-back system struggled against a resolute Swiss team.

Bellingham had rescued England from a similar scenario last time out against Slovakia, when his overhead kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time tied proceedings and gave Harry Kane the platform to head the Three Lions into the quarter-finals.

England, who once again shifted into gear once they were a goal behind, then entered their second period of extra-time at Euro 2024 with a semi-final place against either Holland or Turkey on the line.
