Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann was not a happy camper at half-time of Sunday’s 1-1 draw to Switzerland. After a roaring start, the hosts had ground to a halt — and, trailing 1-0, looked like they might go down in defeat.
But substitute striker Niclas Füllkrug scored in stoppage time to restore Germany to level terms, and make up for a questionable disallowed goal earlier in the match from Robert Andrich.
Despite German dominance of possession, it was a back-and-forth affair and at one point looked poised to turn into a Swiss blowout — but for another disallowed goal.
“In the end it’s a well-deserved point,” Nagelsmann said after the match (via @iMiaSanMia). “Of course, on the counter, you take risks and can concede. We did well to come back. We deserved to equalize. Switzerland were a great opponent, it was an entertaining game. We did well, tactically.”
Now that Germany is in the knockouts, is a tactical change-up in order? Stay tuned.
