Interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni has named his 23-player squad for two international friendlies against Switzerland and Germany this month.
With the A-League Women’s season yet to begin, much of the squad is from Europe or North America, where both seasons are in full swing.
Steph Catley and Ellie Carpenter will lead the side, with Chloe Lincoln and Daniela Galic earning their first ever senior call ups to the Matildas team.
Sam Kerr still remains unavailable due to her long-term knee injury, whilst Liverpool’s Teagan Micah and Cortnee Vine were also unavailable for selection in the October international window.
“As we begin the road to the home Asian Cup in 2026, our next two camps are a chance to set the foundations with this October squad featuring a core of experienced members currently playing and training consistently in their club environments,” Sermanni said.
“We have six invaluable matches from October to December to cultivate opportunities for players whether they are Australian or overseas based, and I am looking forward to commencing the rewarding work.”
The Matildas have also announced some temporary changes to the backroom staff supporting Sermanni, with Young Matildas coach Leah Blayney and former A-League Men’s coach Jean-Paul de Marigny joining the Matildas setup; assistant coach Melissa Andreatta is currently on maternity leave.
