Airline Swiss is strengthening its partnership with SBB Swiss Federal Railways by expanding its air-rail connections from Geneva Airport to more destinations across Switzerland.
The intermodal service will now link to an additional six destinations in the country’s west – Vevey, Montreux, Sion, Sierre, Visp and Brig – which will be bookable from 11 June.
Following this expansion, the Swiss Air Rail network now links to 17 destinations, including to and from Geneva Cornavin (the city’s main station), Fribourg, Bern, Interlaken, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, Bellinzona and Basel, as well as from Zurich to Bregenz, Austria and Munich, Germany.
“This smart interlinking of air and rail transportation delivers a seamless and thus a more relaxing overall travel experience. It fits fully with the times, and it meets a genuine customer need,” said Swiss chief commercial officer Heike Birlenbach.
The service provides travellers with a single ticket (their rail ticket is included in their boarding pass) and offers a ‘connection guarantee’ in the event of a delay, according to the carrier. First and business passengers travel first class by train.
Members of the airline’s Miles & More loyalty programme will also earn miles and points for their rail travel.
SBB head of passenger services market, Véronique Stephan, added: “Working together, we and Swiss are building further bridges between air and rail transport, and are enabling our shared customers to get smoothly and comfortably from the airport to the Alps.”
