Nguyen Thanh Hong, director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, confirmed on April 29 that the Swiss tennis legend and his family are staying in a resort in Dien Ban town, about 6km away from Hoi An city, a UNESCO-recognised World Heritage site.
But he refused to give more detail about the tennis star’s itinerary.
Local media outlets reported that Roger Federer and his family had a tour of famous tourist attractions in Hoi An, including the Old Quarter, on April 29.
Social media on April 28 spread some photos of Federer taking photos with some fans on a tennis court in Hoi An.
Such news grabbed great attention from tennis supporters in Vietnam, as this is the first time the famous Swiss tennis player and his family have come to the Southeast Asian nation.
It is unclear whether Federer plans to visit any other tourist destinations in Vietnam.
Roger Federer is one of the greatest tennis players in the history of tennis. In September 2022, he announced his retirement, ending his glorious tennis career after more than two decades of competition with 103 titles, 310 weeks at world number one, including a record of 237 consecutive weeks, and finishing as the year-end No. 1 five times.
He won 103 singles titles on the ATP Tour, the second most of all time, including 20 major men’s singles titles (among which a record eight men’s singles Wimbledon titles, and an Open Era joint-record five men’s singles US Open titles) and six year-end championships.
