1-1 is a result that Scotland will be far happier with than Switzerland, as it gives Steve Clarke’s men a lifeline in their attempt to progress to the Round of 16.
For Switzerland, this result should guarantee their place in the next round, as long as they don’t get beaten by Hungary by 4 or more goals.
Here are your player ratings for tonights game:
Switzerland:
Yann Sommer: 6 – An unremarkable game for the Inter Milan man, only having one save to make. The Scotland goal took a deflection so Sommer can’t really be blamed.
Fabian Schär: 7 – The best of the three centre halves, the Newcastle defender put in another strong performance tonight.
Manuel Akanji: 6 – Again, an unremarkable performance tonight, nothing really of note.
Ricardo Rodriguez: 6 – The same case as Akanji.
Silvan Widmer: 5 – Honestly could have been lower, a really poor showing from the Mainz 05 man, only winning one out of his seven duels.
Remo Freuler: 6 – The Nottingham Forest man was outperformed by the Scottish midfield trio. Average performance.
Granit Xhaka: 7 – A solid performance from the Swiss Nati captain, did his job better than most of the players around him.
Michel Aebischer: 6 – Unnoticeable for the majority of the game, very poor compared to the group opener against Hungary.
Dan Ndoye: 7 – Strong game for Ndoye, caused problems for the Scottish defence all game.
Ruben Vargas: 6 – A quiet game, very much uninspiring performance from the FC Augsburg winger.
Xherdan Shaqiri: 7 – A sixth tournament with a goal for Switzerland’s dynamo. An absolute wonder-goal, followed by one of the worst knee-slides I’ve ever seen.
Switzerland Substitutes:
Breel Embolo: 6 – A quiet game following his introduction.
Fabian Rieder: 6 – A quiet game following his introduction.
Vincent Sierro: 5 – A quiet game following his introduction. Picked up a yellow card.
Leonidas Stergiou: 6 – A quiet game following his introduction.
Zeki Amdouni: 6 – A quiet game following his introduction.
Scotland:
Angus Gunn: 8 – An unreal performance. Made up for the Germany game. A few important saves.
Jack Hendry: 7 – A solid performance, the best in the backline for Scotland tonight.
Grant Hanley: 6 – A solid performance. Didn’t do anything particularly wrong.
Kieran Tierney: 6 – The Arsenal man went off injured, was having a decent game til that point.
Anthony Ralston: 4 – Made a shocking mistake for the Swiss goal. Had a poor game outside of that as well.
Billy Gilmour: 6 – A solid performance, held down the midfield well.
Callum McGregor: 7 – Registered an assist for the goal, had a solid game.
Andrew Robertson: 7 – Played well on the left, causing issues for the Swiss right-hand side.
Scott McTominay: 8 – The best outfield player on the pitch. Scored the Scottish goal, and played immensely well outside of that too.
Che Adams: 6 – A quiet game for Adams, not much of note.
John McGinn: 6 – Much like Adams, didn’t contribute much.
Scotland Substitutes:
Scott McKenna: 6 – A quiet game following his introduction.
Kenny McLean: 6 – A quiet game following his introduction.
Ryan Christie: 6 – Came on too late in the game to make an impact.
Lawrence Shankland: 6 – Came on too late in the game to make an impact.
For both teams, all eyes are now on matchday three, with both sides having a chance at making it into the next round of the competition.
