Eve Galbreath (2015)

Eve was a 4 sport athlete at Switzerland County High School and lettered all 4 years in all 4 sports – basketball, volleyball, soccer and track. She finished her career as the all time leading scorer in girls basketball and is currently 3rd all-time with 1,199 career points. Eve remains the all time leader in career rebounds (716), career field goals (480) and career free throws made (241). She was a 3 time All-Conference member and the team won the Conference her junior year and won the Sectional her Senior year. In volleyball, Eve earned All-Conference honors her junior and senior years. The team also won the only Volleyball Sectional title in school history her junior year. Eve made the All-Conference team in track her junior and senior years, and the team won the Conference her sophomore, junior and senior years. Eve was also a 4-year soccer player and was the goalkeeper for the team. After graduation, Eve went on to graduate from Hanover College where she competed on the track & field team.

Jim Huff (1966)

Jim is a 1966 graduate of Patriot High School. He was a 3 year member of the varsity baseball, basketball, cross country and track teams. Jim was instrumental in the Patriot teams becoming much more competitive and improving their win-loss record to the best it had been in over 15 years. Jim’s contributions in each sport were invaluable, and he was a consummate and unselfish “team player” in every sport. Jim was the team leader in assists during his time on the court. Unfortunately, assists was not a statistic that was kept during the 1960s. In his senior year, Jim was class Vice-President, captain of the basketball team and team MVP for basketball. Jim was also awarded the Sportsmanship Award his junior year. After graduation, Jim entered the Army and served honorably while serving a combat tour in Vietnam where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and 2 bronze stars. Jim continues to serve his community as a leader and is a member of the Daviess County Search and Rescue team.

1925-26 Patriot High School Boys Basketball Team

When the new Patriot High School was built in 1924, it did not include a gymnasium. The 1925-26 team did not have uniforms and practiced in the back of a local barn. This did not deter the Trojans, and at seasons end, they actually borrowed team uniforms from the Vevay Warriors to participate in the 1926 Madison Sectional that consisted of 10 schools – Austin, Deputy, Dupont, Hanover, Madison, North Madison, Patriot, Rykers Ridge, Scottsburg and Vevay. The team defeated Hanover 18-13 in their first game, then defeated the overwhelming Sectional favorite, Scottsburg 16-13 the next afternoon. The Trojans came back that night and defeated Deputy 32-14 to win the Sectional. The All-Tournament team included 3 Patriot players – C. Henry, C. Lampkin and G. North. The team received recognition in newspapers from all over the state for being the “team without a gym and uniforms.” The accomplishment is a story about overcoming the odds and is one of many that made high school basketball in Indiana, “Hoosier Hysteria.” This was the only Sectional title in Patriot school history which closed in 1968 and consolidated into Switzerland County High School.

1926-27 Vevay High School Boys Basketball Team

Basketball was king at Vevay High School, and the 1926-27 Vevay boys basketball team earned the school’s first of what would be 6 Sectional titles in school history. The 1927 Warriors defeated the Sectional host, Scottsburg 15-14 in their first game, then defeated Madison 31-21 in the Semifinal. They defeated North Madison 20-19 in the Sectional Championship.
