Switzerland devastating in Coolmore Stud Stakes romp

Trainer Chris Waller has claimed a record sixth Coolmore Stud Stakes with star colt Switzerland simply brilliant in the stallion-making group 1 feature.

The son of Snitzel roared away with the $2 million feature to deliver champion jockey James McDonald three of the past four stagings of the three-year-old-showpiece.

“That’s what we do baby,” James McDonald screamed post race.

“The three horses I’ve ridden to win this race have all been absolute stars and this horse is right up there.

“He started short in a Golden Slipper and then got back to form last start and this race was always the target.

“Missing The Everest was the way to go. He’s a lovely colt. A pleasure to ride.”

After beginning brilliantly from the gates, Switzerland, a last start winner of the Roman Consul in Sydney, settled brilliantly before unleashing a devastating finish to win running away.

Bellatrix Star finished runner-up while Growing Empire and Lady Of Camelot, both coming out of The Everest, dead-heated for third.
