Sommer went off with an injury during yesterday’s friendly match with the Swiss national team.
Switzerland faced off against Denmark in a friendly match as the teams prepare for the upcoming Euros.
Sommer suffered his injury during the first half of that match, which he had started.
The 35-year-old moved in a way that twisted the ankle awkwardly.
Sommer went down in some pain. And the Swiss medical staff went over to examine the issue and try to treat it.
Sommer did try to play on following the injury.
But then it became clear that the Inter keeper would not be able to continue, so he came off the pitch as a substitute. Lorient keeper Yvon Mvogo took his place in the 37th minute.
Confirmed – Yann Sommer Leaves Switzerland Training Camp For Medical Tests With Inter
It is now confirmed by the Swiss national team – Sommer will play no part for the rest of the international break.
The problem for the Inter keeper was some form of sprain in his ankle.
Reportedly, there was a significant amount of “pain and swelling” for the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper.
But it remains to be seen how severe the injury is. Moreover, the timeline for Sommer’s recovery is not yet clear.
But that should change relatively shortly.
The Swiss national team confirm that once Sommer is back in Milan, he will undergo medical tests with the Inter medical staff.
This should give a clearer idea of when Sommer will be able to get back on the bench.
Inter’s first match back from the international break is against Empoli next Monday.
