Switzerland vs. Germany prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Euro 2024 group finale | Sporting News

Already through to the knockout stage, Euro 2024 hosts Germany will look to take good vibes with them further into the competition as they match up against Switzerland in the Group A finale from Frankfurt on Sunday.

Germany have already secured passage to the knockout round thanks to wins over Scotland and Hungary, while Switzerland are in an advantageous position but have yet to secure advancement mathematically.

Die Mannschaft can finish no lower than second in the group but will want to give themselves a seeded position by topping the standings, knowing a third-place finisher awaits in the Round of 16 should they do so. Switzerland, meanwhile, can only be caught in second place should they lose, see Scotland beat Hungary, and also squander their six-goal differential advantage.

A defining feature of the final group stage round will be simultaneous kickoffs, as this game begins right alongside Scotland vs. Hungary to give no team any competitive edge of knowing what result sees them through.

Switzerland vs. Germany prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Draw (+290)
  • Score prediction: Switzerland 2-2 Germany

There is far more on the line for Switzerland here than Germany, and that could play out on the pitch. A draw would give both sides what they want, which is advancement to the knockout stage without too much tension.

Even defeat wouldn’t be too troublesome for Germany — a second-place finish would see them likely drawn against Italy in the Round of 16, but from there would see them avoid a potential quarterfinal game against in-form Spain in favor of a possible meeting with struggling England instead.

The Swiss are a problematic side that could give Germany problems if they play an up-tempo style while proving strong on the counter-attack, things which they are indeed capable of.

Switzerland vs. Germany best bet

  • Pick: Over 2.5 total goals
  • Odds: -135 (BetMGM)

There are goals in this game, as both sides will want to see what they can do in attack in a match where the final score will do little to bother either team, especially the hosts.

Germany somehow managed to concede on the only shot they allowed 10-man Scotland to have in the opener and then got that luck back as Hungary were blanked despite 1.18 xG on 11 shots. Switzerland shredded Hungary for 2.88 xG, and while they regressed somewhat against Scotland, they still played a somewhat open match in the second half.

Switzerland vs. Germany prop bet

  • Pick: Jamal Musiala to score or assist
  • Odds: +130 (FanDuel)
  • Pick: Ilkay Gundogan to assist a goal
  • Odds: +420 (FanDuel)

With Julian Nagelsmann potentially set to rotate his side, it’s possible that at least one of these players could sit out. Therefore, we’ve tipped two individuals who have been exceptional to begin this tournament and have a strong chance to keep it going.

Young playmaker Jamal Musiala has blossomed into a full-fledged star in the early portion of this tournament, putting his struggles at the national team level well and truly behind him. Scoring in both games so far, Musiala has doubled his international goal haul after just two from his previous 29 caps, and he’s been truly good for those efforts.

Meanwhile, we tipped Ilkay Gundogan to provide service in Germany’s opener against Scotland, a match in which he was brutally unlucky to log an assist, winning a penalty while having an assist chalked off on another goal due to a slight touch off a defender en route. He made up for it by logging one against Hungary in the ensuing match, feeding the aforementioned Musiala on the opening goal before scoring himself.

After a debut Barcelona season where he led La Liga in chances created, he’ll be ready to do the business again up front. Gundogan can crop up in front of goal too as we saw last time out, but at just +160 to score or assist, the longer odds backing just his creativity are much more worthwhile.
