Swiss star Joana Heidrich
Joana Heidrich won a bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Tokyo Olympics. When earning bronze in Tokyo, Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre became the second European team to medal. She suffered a shoulder injury while serving in the 2022 World Championship in Rome, costing her 10 months.
“The whole period since my injury in Rome was not easy and I had to fight with many things to reach this point,” Heidrich told Volleyball World. “That’s also why it didn’t feel like 10 months. I am overjoyed to be back doing what I love the most.
“I would say that I have never been as physically fit as I am now. I have done a lot for it and, of course, I had to, because I had to compensate for my strength deficit in the shoulder. Since my strength in the arm is not as before yet, I had to learn a lot technically and am still doing so.”
