Calling all chocolate lovers! A new chocolatier is opening soon inside Mississauga Square One, just in time for those summer taste buds.
Läderach was founded in 1962 in Glarus, Switzerland, by Rudolf Läderach Jr., and quickly became known in the chocolate industry.
A notable innovation came in 1970 when Rudolf Jr. developed a method to create thin-walled hollow balls for truffles, streamlining production and boosting the quality of their premium chocolates.
The company’s growth accelerated in 2004 with the acquisition of Merkur Confiserien AG, broadening its direct consumer reach with over 40 branches.
Additionally, there was the launch of FrischSchoggi, their signature fresh chocolate sold by the piece.
The FrischSchoggi, a crowd favourite, is a type of chocolate bark that comes in a variety of flavours. Some options include fruity and fresh white chocolate with raspberry pieces, a classic version featuring milk chocolate and caramelized Piedmontese hazelnuts or a purely indulgent choice with dark Grand Cru chocolate. These batches of chocolates have a freshness date of 2-3 weeks, which is shorter compared to other Läderach chocolate products.
Other popular selections include the 24-piece assorted box of classic pralines and the 36-piece box of assorted truffles.
According to the company’s main website, all ingredients are carefully selected to ensure only the finest quality with production exclusively in Switzerland to maintain high standards.
Läderach operates over 100 chocolate stores globally, spanning countries like Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. In Ontario, existing locations include Yorkdale Shopping Centre, York Mills, and CF Eaton Centre, with Mississauga’s Square One set to become the fourth.
Signage outside the shop indicates an opening for “Summer 2024.” However, chocolate aficionados may need to wait a bit longer to try these sweet treats, as a date for the grand opening has not been announced.
